Explanation

Players form rows, far enough apart so when their arms are outstretched they touch the arms of those next to them. Teacher calls “Streets” or “Lanes” requiring the stationary players to twist their feet 90 degrees from North/South position to East/West position or vice versa. The mouse assumes a position somewhere within the maze. The aim is for the cat to catch the mouse. Neither the cat nor the mouse can break through a street or a lane.
Why is this game important for this stage?
  1. Allows all players to utilise communication skills (Interpersonal Relationships – Communication).
  2. Provides an opportunity for players to utilise tactical and strategic movement (Games and Sports – Games).
  3. The effects of endurance, balance and speed are demonstrated (Active Lifestyle – Effects of physical activity).
